Marshal Viewer
The Marshal Viewer is a tool for browsing and searching files in an export or archive. If there's a stylesheet (
XSLT) available, it will instantly transform an XML file into a humanly readable document and display it.
Marshal Viewer targets exports generated by other software in the Marshal suite, such as Marshal Editor and Marshal Archiver. This said, you may apply Marshal Viewer on any folder structure and transform any XML file, not just the ones Marshal's created!

How to use
To start using Marshal Viewer you need to assign it a root directory where to start browsing. When accessing an archive, this is typically the path to a network file share, such as \\archiveserver\archive.
In order to view content of XML files, you need the appropriate XSLT (eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformation) files. Marshal Viewer associates each XML namespaces with XSLT stylesheet last used. This allows the application to automatically select and use the correct stylesheet even when browsing an inhomogenous set of XML files.
The Marshal Viewer GUI displays a folder browsing tree to the left and transformed XML content to the right. The files of the currently selected folder, including any XML files, are displayed in the lower left corner. To transform and display an XML file, just click on it. To open a file on your computer, double-click it.
If a folder contains an equally named XML file, e.g. if
myfolder contains a
myfolder.xml, this XML file is automatically displayed when selecting the folder. Such a folder is marked with a
in the folder tree.
Provided the file structure is indexed using Windows Search, you may use Marshal Viewer to search file content. To search press, ctrl-f and enter your search criteria. Note that the search function restricts the search to files in, or below, the currently selected folder.
The namespace XSLT associations, as well as the roots directories used, are all stored in a user application data file. This allows you to take off where you left off! On Windows 7, these settings are found in the file AppData\Roaming\RISE to Bloome Software\Marshal.Viewer\configuration.xml stored in the directory of the user.
